The Register has reported that Russia has apparently given super-leaker and former NSA sysadmin Edward Snowden de facto permanent residence.

Snowden’s lawyer, a chap named Anatoly Kucherena, dropped in to tell it that Snowden has been granted an “open-ended residence permit”. Snowden was granted a three-year residency permit in 2014, then offered a three-year extension.

I don’t know whether it’s good news or bad as Ed Snowden is still unablle to live in his homeland and country, USA because American government can’t tolerate whistle-blowers who tell the world the truth.

Also, Russia can’t be a good residency place for people like Snowden. Snowden proved that he puts people first and Russia is not a country which you can trust in good faith. Russia is definitely trying to use Snowden for its own benefits against USA and doesn’t care about people or Snowden himself.

Snowden’s open-ended stay appears to have been made possible by 2019 reforms to Russian immigration rules that make it easier for highly-skilled workers to adopt the nation as their home. While permanent residence offers a pathway to citizenship, Kucherena said Snowden has no interest in acquiring a Russian passport at this time.
